EDUCATION

ORCA LAB is Production Company, Wellness Hub & Education Collab all-in-one, unified by

a single vision: to re-imagine how we might live our lives for the better.

Film

ORCA LAB: FILM is a groundbreaking production company, with the founding principle of re-imagining the conditions of filming: more rehearsal, more conversation, true inclusivity, less hours.

ORCA LAB are currently in partnership with BIG INDIE PICTURES on our debut feature film - DANCING TREE, and our debut TV Pilot, ODD.

Performance

ORCA LAB: HEALTH is a wellness hub that changes how we approach fitness & health.

What if the way we move changes the way we think?  What if we could run faster, for longer, by doing less?

We provide new ways of training for everyone: from elite level athletes to musicians, from people recovering from acute & chronic injury, to children with disability.

Education

ORCA LAB: EDUCATION is a collaborative that believes we are long overdue an educational revolution.

We contend that schools were set up along industrial lines, remain antiquated in the way they teach, and that with the advent of Chat GPT, we need to re-think not just what we teach, but how we teach.

At ORCA LAB, we are committed to continuing the voice & legacy of educationalist Sir Ken Robinson.

Edwin Thomas

Edwin is a disabled actor, writer, producer, educationalist & is the Founder of ORCA LAB.

On screen, Edwin is best known for his portrayal as Robbie Ross in THE HAPPY PRINCE (2018), which premiered at both Sundance Film Festival & Berlinale, and for which he was nominated as a Screen International Star of Tomorrow for his performance opposite Rupert Everett & Colin Firth.

For most of his 20s, Edwin suffered from undiagnosed, debilitating pain - struggling to walk or stand for longer than a few minutes at a time.  Ten years later, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy following the revelation of an accident at birth.  Having been told he would not recover, Edwin spent over 10,000 hours rewiring movement patterns & neural pathways using a particular combination of The Feldenkrais Method & Sport Science: he is now back playing tennis & football - and teaching people the skills he has learnt.

Edwin has spent long stretches of his life working in education: he taught English & French at SMMA in North London, co-founded the access & outreach scheme at Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and has regularly collaborated with Wadham College, Oxford University - which he attended as an undergrad.  He recently completed a 5 year training in The Feldenkrais Method, and is a patron of SmallSteps, who work with children with cerebral palsy.  In between TV work, he runs a successful private practice in London.

Edwin is trilingual, speaking French & Brazilian Portuguese, having lived in both Lyon & Rio de Janeiro. He is represented as an actor, writer & director by Kate Staddon, Isabelle Sweetland & Abigail Millar at Curtis Brown - for enquiries, bookings & writing samples, please contact staddon.office@curtisbrown.co.uk.
